Fan IP Rating: IP44/IP54/IP55 Selection Guide
IP (Ingress Protection) ratings have two digits: the first for solids (0-6), the second for water (0-8). The most common ratings for industrial cooling fans are IP43, IP54 and IP55. Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a big difference between IP44 and IP54?
IP44 protects against >1mm solids and splashing water. IP54 is dust-protected (limited dust ingress, no harmful effect) and protects against splash water from any direction. IP44 is fine for clean indoor environments; for dusty or semi-outdoor use, go straight to IP54.
Do outdoor cabinets require IP55?
IP55 protects against low-pressure water jets from any direction, suitable for outdoor locations exposed to rain. For semi-outdoor areas under a roof or canopy, IP54 with a louver + filter is sufficient.
What rating for coastal / salt spray environments?
IP ratings only protect against solids and water, not salt spray corrosion. For coastal use, choose IP55 + anti-corrosion coating (epoxy painted or 304/316 stainless steel guard), and C5-M corrosion protection grade if needed.
Does IP55 reduce airflow?
At the same size, IP55 fans have 5%-10% lower airflow than IP43 fans due to sealed construction. When selecting, either step up one size or choose a higher-RPM sub-model of the same size.
What IP ratings are available in the JIEFENGFAN JF series?
Standard version is IP43; IP54 is optional (with sealing ring); IP55 requires custom order. Adding cabinet filter fans (louvers + filter mesh) raises the overall cabinet protection to IP54.
